What to Do if You Have a Water Damage

1. Safety First! - Never enter a flooded area that may be electrified or dangerous in other ways. Be aware of slippery surfaces, avoid damaged contents or structure that could collapse and fall on you, and try to turn off the power to any area that may be an electrical danger.




2. Call Chem-Dry Express (317) 580-0200 - We will get an emergency response crew dispatched to you. Our team will help you determine what has been damaged, the steps needed for proper restoration, and help you determine whether you should file a claim with your insurance company.




3. Locate and Disable the Water Source - Try to shut off the water if you have a broken pipe, an overflowing fixture, or a broken appliance. If you have a sump pump failure, try to get another pump installed as quickly as possible.




4. Protect Valuable Contents - Remove keepsakes and antiques from water damaged areas, if possible. You can protect furniture legs by wrapping them in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or by raising them up out of the water. Try to remove contents from closets, under the stairs, etc. that may have hidden water intrusion.
